Seal of Biliteracy

Since 2012 the district has presented the State Seal of Biliteracy to each graduating high school student who has attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.

There is no application for the Seal of Biliteracy. Seniors who have met eligibility via coursework within RJUHSD will be notified if they have received the award.

The California Department of Education has determined the criteria for the California State Seal of Biliteracy recognition. Students must show proficiency in English as well as in one or more languages, other than English, by demonstrating the following:

English Proficiency:

Students must have:

2.0 GPA in all graduation-required English Courses
Standard met on the CAASPP for ELA

Proficiency in a language other than English demonstrated in one of two ways:
1. Coursework
  - Completing four years of coursework with a 3.0 GPA or higher
2. Assessment
  - Passing score on the AP (3 or higher), IB (4 or higher), or SAT II subject test (600 or higher)

		Personal Finance Course

220 credits + the Personal Finance Course needed for graduation from Independence High School. Students must earn a C or better in all A-G classes.
180 credits + the Personal Finance Course needed for graduation from Adelante High School.

PE Exemption Waiver

Physical Education is a requirement for graduation per the California Education Code 51222 and Roseville Joint Union High School District Board Policy 6142.7. Requests to modify this requirement through the waiver process are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. In addition, a student who qualifies for a physical education exemption will not be awarded 10 credits for the second year of physical education and must still successfully complete 260 credits to graduate.

A physical education exemption may be submitted to waive one year (10 credits) of the graduation requirement of (20 credits of physical education). All freshmen are required to take physical education (PE 9).

One of the applications below must be completed for each exemption request. Completed applications shall be turned in to your counselor by May 1st.

Physical Education Waiver – FAQS

Athletics - PE Exemption Waiver

IMPORTANT CRITERIA:

This exemption is applicable to only the Class of 2028 and beyond.
In order to be eligible for this exemption, students must pass PE 9 with a C grade or better and pass five components of the Fitnessgram Test in 9th Grade. A D or F in PE 9 grade will not qualify for an exemption waiver.
The approval of this exemption is contingent on earning a roster spot and will be reviewed by the Athletic Director.
Students must still need to meet ALL credit requirements for graduation.
Independent conditioning programs or club sports cannot be considered for a physical education exemption.
This exemption only applies to students who are not enrolled in Athletic PE.
Completion of the entire season of the interscholastic athletic program is required to validate this exemption.
Failure to participate in the sport for the duration of the season will result in no credit being exempted.
At the completion of each two sports seasons, a verification form must be completed and signed by the coach or athletic director.
For the PE exemption, A student must complete a minimum of 75 hours of practice/conditioning per season under the direct supervision of the coach.
Roles such as a team manager, helper, or coaching assistant, will not qualify for this exemption.
Esports does not qualify for a PE exemption.
Injuries: If a student sustains an injury that will prevent them from participating at full capacity for 4 or more weeks, the exemption cannot be validated. The student will have the opportunity to reapply for another season or enroll in qualifying second PE course the following term or school year.
To qualify for this waiver, a student must maintain their academic eligibility through the entire season.
If a student is dropped from their team for disciplinary reasons, they will invalidate their exemption and will lose the privilege of the exemption in the future.
If a student does not fulfill the course waiver requirements by the end of the junior year, the student will automatically be enrolled in a PE course their senior year.

Athletic PE WAiver

Marching Band or Dance - PE Exemption Waiver

IMPORTANT CRITERIA:

This exemption is applicable to only the Class of 2028 and beyond.
In order to be eligible for this exemption waiver, students must pass PE 9 with a C grade or better and pass five components of the Fitnessgram Test in 9th Grade. A D or F in PE 9 grade will not qualify for an exemption waiver.
The approval of this exemption is contingent on enrollment in the course.
Students must still need to meet ALL credit requirements for graduation.
Successful passing of the marching band, color guard, or dance class (level 2 and above) must be completed to validate this exemption.
If a student does not fulfill the course waiver requirements by the end of the junior year, the student will automatically be enrolled in a PE course their senior year.
